Colour design of road surfaces — WETRAFFIC St. Gallen East

In the St. Gallen East area, the application of WETRAFFIC thin-film colour system to local communications was implemented with the aim of optically highlighting the traffic area and improving its functional properties.

The road colour scheme was designed to naturally draw the driver's attention to the character of the section, help to calm traffic and at the same time increase the safety of all road users.

Characteristics of the implementation

The application was made as a continuous coloured thin-film surface in red, designed for traffic-exposed sections of roads.

Implementations included:

  • preparation of the existing asphalt pavement
  • application of WETRAFFIC thin film system
  • Unification of color surfaces across the entire width of communication
  • final technological closure of the surface

The technology allowed for rapid implementation while maintaining a minimum restriction of traffic.

Functional benefits

Color adjustment of communication brings:

  • optical highlighting of the traffic area
  • support for traffic calming
  • increasing the attention of drivers
  • improved readability of communication
  • anti-skid properties of the surface

Utilization of color communications

The project in St. Gallen East demonstrates the possibilities of using WETRAFFIC for:

  • Reduced speed zones
  • residential areas
  • traffic-risk sections
  • urban and municipal roads

Coloured roadways are a functional tool for both safety and visual unification of the traffic area.
