Institute of Planning and Development of the City of Prague

Sampling of color shades of the WETRAFFIC thin-film system was provided for the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague. The aim was to assess the suitability of individual colour variants for planned applications in urban space and to select the most suitable shade in terms of function and visual impact.

Samples were prepared in the form of application surfaces on wooden boards, which allowed a clear comparison of colour in real light conditions.

Objective of sampling

The main purpose was to:

  • Comparison of different colors of the WETRAFFIC system
  • assessment of color visibility in daylight
  • evaluation of the contrast and saturation of shades
  • selection of the most suitable option for urban applications

Emphasis was placed on functional as well as aesthetic incorporation of colored surfaces into the environment of the capital.

Sample preparation

Samples were realized by applying WETRAFFIC system to prepared wooden boards, which served as presentation and comparison basis.

The preparation included:

  • technological application of individual color variants
  • Unification of the surface structure
  • final treatment of samples
  • marking and specification of shades

This form allowed for easy manipulation, presentation and long-term assessment.

Color rating

Color variants were assessed in natural daylight, which best simulates real traffic conditions.

In particular, the following were evaluated:

  • visual readability of shades
  • contrast with surrounding materials
  • suitability for transport areas
  • overall aesthetic effect

Based on this assessment, the preferred shade was selected for further project preparation.

Importance of implementation

Sampling for the Prague Institute of Planning and Development represents an important step in the conceptual selection of colour surfaces for urban infrastructure.

The project confirms the importance of physical samples in deciding the shape of traffic areas and contributes to the systematic development of visually and functionally quality solutions in the capital's environment.
