Guidance system — WETRAFFIC Munich

In Munich, the application of WETRAFFIC thin-film colour system was implemented in the intersection area with the aim of optical guidance of cycling traffic and increasing the safety of cyclists passing through traffic-exposed areas.

The coloured area forms a distinctive navigation element that clearly delineates the cycle corridor in the junction area and increases its visibility to other road users.

Characteristics of the implementation

The application was made as a continuous red thin-film area following the cycling route and existing traffic signage.

Implementations included:

  • preparation of the existing asphalt pavement
  • application of WETRAFFIC thin film system
  • precise connection to cycling infrastructure
  • Unification of the color surface
  • final technological closure of the surface

The application was carried out under partial traffic restriction with emphasis on speed of implementation.

Functional benefits

Color leadership brings:

  • optical highlighting of the bicycle corridor
  • increase the safety of cyclists at the intersection
  • better readability of the traffic situation
  • alerting drivers to the presence of cyclists
  • anti-skid properties of the surface

Use of guidance systems for cyclists

Similar applications of WETRAFFIC are used in particular:

  • at intersections with cycling crossings
  • at crossings for cyclists
  • at the connection points of bicycle paths to roads
  • in traffic-risk sections
  • in urban cycling corridors
