In Prague's Kolovraty we participated in a project to improve road safety throughout the village. The goal was not just to modify one specific spot, but to calm traffic passing through the village and increase safety in problematic sections, especially in curves and around a high-risk pedestrian crossing.
To highlight selected areas, we used WeTraffic 492, a highly durable structural PMMA system with vibrant coloring and high skid resistance.
Problematic areas in a village are often not linked by a single specific issue. It can be a combination of curves, higher speeds, limited visibility, or areas where pedestrians move.
This is where a well-chosen safety surface can help alert drivers to a high-risk spot more effectively while providing a surface with high skid resistance.
In Kolovraty, we therefore color-highlighted selected sections of the route through the village and problematic curves. The distinct surface naturally draws the driver's attention and helps to visually break up the road.
The solution also included a high-risk pedestrian crossing, where it is essential for drivers to spot the location in time and have enough space to react safely.
The color highlighting is complemented by the anti-skid function of the surface. WeTraffic 492 achieves an anti-skid value of PTV > 65 (GS 3) and is designed for areas subject to heavy traffic loads.
It is not just about making a high-risk area clearly visible. The surface itself is also important, especially in situations where you need to brake, change direction, or navigate a curve safely.
