WETRAFFIC pedestrian crossing anti-skid safety surface

Application was implemented for communication in Prague anti-skid colored surface before pedestrian crossing technology WETRAFFIC. The aim was to increase safety at the crossing point of pedestrian and road traffic primarily by improving the adhesion properties of the roadway and optically highlighting the crossing for arriving drivers.

The implementation was carried out on the existing asphalt surface of the road with emphasis on fast application, minimal traffic restrictions and immediate functionality upon completion of work.

Objective of implementation

The main purpose of the application was:

• increase pedestrian safety when crossing roads
• improvement of anti-skid properties of the road
• shortening the stopping distance of vehicles before crossing
• optical highlighting of a traffic hazard

The colour scheme also helps drivers timely identify the transition and adjust the speed of travel.

Characteristics of the application

The application was made as WETRAFFIC high pressure anti-skid system, intended for traffic-exposed places.

Implementations included:

• Preparation of the base surface
• application of the WeTraffic system
• final quality control of execution

The technology is designed to long time resistant to traffic loads and climatic influences while maintaining high anti-skid properties.

The applied surface contributes to increased safety mainly due to:

• better adhesion between the tire and the road
• Shortening the braking distance, especially in wet conditions
• a significant optical transition warning
• increasing the attention of drivers
