Cycle path A2 — Praha Podolí

Testing area WETRAFFIC 491_1002

The test area of the WETRAFFIC thin-film colour system WETRAFFIC was carried out on the A2 cycle path in the Prague Podolí district. The aim was to verify the functional, safety and application characteristics of the system in real operating conditions of a frequented urban cycle route.

The test section was designed to allow long-term monitoring of surface behavior under cycling load, climatic influences and routine maintenance of communications.

Objective of implementation

The main purpose of the application was:

  • verification of the adhesion of the system to the base layer
  • assessment of the anti-skid properties of the surface
  • tracking color constancy
  • evaluation of resistance to mechanical loads
  • test of application technology in urban infrastructure conditions

At the same time, the test area serves as a reference demonstration of the visual and functional contribution of coloured surfaces on cycling roads.

Characteristics of the application

The application was made as a thin film WETRAFFIC colour system designed to highlight traffic areas with mixed or cycle traffic.

Implementations included:

  • preparation of the underlying asphalt surface
  • application of a thin-film color layer
  • technological closure of the system
  • final quality control of execution

The colour solution was chosen in view of the optical highlighting of the cycle route and increasing the safety of users.

Verification of anti-skid properties

Measurement of anti-shear parameters was carried out within the framework of the implementation PTV — Pendulum Test Value. The measured values correspond to the requirements of the relevant standards for walking surfaces, which confirms the safe use of the surface in terms of adhesion and minimization of the risk of slipping.

At the same time, this measurement serves as a reference basis for assessing the suitability of WETRAFFIC for applications on cycle paths and other roads with the movement of pedestrians and cyclists.

Benefits of implementation

The test area brings several key benefits:

  • increase the visual orientation of cyclists
  • Better separation of cycling from other traffic
  • improvement of the anti-skid properties of the surface
  • increased safety in the exposed section

At the same time, it provides important data for the further development and application of the WETRAFFIC system in the conditions of urban cycle paths.

Reference usage

The implementation serves as a validation and presentation area of WETRAFFIC technology and is used for:

  • assessment of the long-term life of the system
  • presentation to investors and communications managers
  • design of other applications on cycle paths and traffic areas
